This Tesla model S owner contacted us about paint protection film for his daily driver and wanted to do a full matte conversion. He wanted to give this car a new look; a nice, sleek makeover for the car that he would be giving to his kids eventually. We picked up the vehicle, and after getting it to the shop, and also after a closer look at the car, we realized that clear matte PPF was not going to be a good fit. (Grey matte was really what the customer wanted, but had forgotten to mention the "grey" part during our original conversation.) There were some minor scratches and dings around the car, especially being almost 10 years old, but what was most concerning was a small quarter sized area on the passenger side where the clear coat had chipped away. Upon further inspection, after finding more damage than expected, we contacted the customer to discuss further options. We suggested a full color change with vinyl rather than PPF to stay within our customers budget, while still giving them that matte grey look they asked for. Our customer also asked to have all the chrome to be covered in gloss black. The final product came out looking exceptional; the matte grey gives this car such a sleek look, just like our customer was looking for. Once everything was finished, we trailered the car down to Virginia for drop off to our customer. We love to see our customers happy at the end of the day!

           What is Tint?

A thin, multi-layered, polyester film applied to the interior surface, designed for privacy and protection from the sun.

           What does Tint do?

It can Provide privacy, glare reduction, heat rejection and cancer protection believe it or not.

Why is this shop so much cheaper than you?

This isn't actually always the case; in most scenarios that we have seen, you're actually being lied to and overpaying for the quality of tint that was put on your car. Most of the time, when you're focused on the bottom dollar, you are most likely being lied to and this can lead to being told you're getting "X" film, when they actually put on "Y" film, or they simply don't tell you at all. Realistically though, the shop you thought is more expensive and upfront about cost, is simply providing you with better film quality and service. Usually, we notice that the more haze you get out of these cheaper films is actually making it harder to look out of. Have you ever noticed someones tint turning purple, or someone driving past you and the whole back window is all bubbled up, and you are thinking, "wow where did they get that done?" You might be going to the same place without even knowing it.

epending on the quality of the carbon film, you can get between 60-80% heat rejection and really high infrared rejection.

It does still maintain a dark matte finish, and some carbon tints can have more of a brown hue to them. Cheaper than ceramic, not much more expensive than single dyed film. Color stable, and most films offer lifetime warranties

            Cons:

Even though it provides great infrared properties on really warm days, the heat rejection isn't at good as ceramic. It can be harder to look out of, compared to ceramic, because carbon film always has a minor haze to it, and to a trained eye it becomes more noticeable.

            Ceramic Tint-

            Non-conductive, non-metallic ceramic particles.

            Pros:

High infrared protection, and high heat rejection. Most ceramic tints provide 90-99% heat rejection properties. Superior visibility, (seriously it's so easy to look out of). Glare is greatly reduced.

More expensive; you can easily spend over $600 depending on what vehicle you have.

           What do the percentages mean?

Tint percentages do have a meaning:

Tint percentages are equivalent to how much light is allowed through the vehicle. 5% is the darkest, while 70% is the lightest.

           What is a shaved edge?

Shaving an edge is when you leave excess film at the top of the window edge that is then filed down for no gap from the top of the window. Usually this is common practice on frameless windows. Some people shave it with either a knife or a razor, but that can lead to some jagged cuts over a template pattern where the top edge is machine cut.

           Why we Choose Covrgard?

In our shop we don't even offer single dyed film; its not worth your money. We use Covrgard, not because it's inexpensive, but because it's the highest rated film I have ever metered, (even if that means I have to eat the extra cost of the film because of its superior properties). We see so much of the exact opposite- buy the cheapest film, get the customer in, and send em on their way- that it makes me upset.

This film also is very nice to remove; some films have great properties, but if for some reason we needed to remove it, it would leave all the glue behind and it's just an absolute mess.

This Porsche came to us to have full body paint protection film applied, a ceramic coating, and all-around window tint done. Wash, prep, & claybar was done prior to us applying Covrgard gloss paint protection film- CovrGard is one of the flattest and glossiest films on the market right now! We also added a little extra flair of Inozetek color ppf on the rear quarter panels to match the Porsche decals and wheels.

Paint Protection Film- When it came to the install of this car there are some things to note. Starting with the hood, there's two incredibly deep recesses in the hood because of the vents; there is two options: minor reliefs and non-relief. We opted for a relief option- with this car being a darker color, trying to do it without a relief cut can create a lot of distortion in the Paint Protection Film. In most cases, we will see, over a small bit of time, "fingers" popping up on the side of the hood from pushing tension outwards and because the hood is carbon fiber there isn't anything to wrap onto, so you have to shave the edge on the bottom side leaving nowhere to get a clean non-relief option. Something else to mention, we do what is called a "semi bulk installation"; we pay for top quality kits in today's world, tucking as much of the edges as possible- which is super important. We use a software program and modify patterns to give us extra material to work with for a more seamless install, such as on the fenders- when we remove the side markers, we extend almost the whole panel so we can ensure a clean install with no exposed area.

The same happens with the doors; we remove the door panel and remove the mirror and the door sweeps. Roofs are pretty simple, and we try to stay away from pulling antennas because dropping headliners always results in some sort of damage, whether it is visible or not to the customer. Usually what we will do is extend the ppf about an inch all the way around to give us a good stretch and tuck on the front and back edge, but this also allows a really tight fit around the antenna. Quarter panels on these cars can be tricky because it seems like no matter what you do, or how you do it, there always seems to be dust and dirt behind the quarter glass gasket just waiting to find its way into the film, so you need to lock in that edge as soon as possible. This can make for some difficulties with working the film down over the hips without any sort of distortion and work marks. Of course, we usually like to extend the whole bottom side of each quarter to give us a little wiggle room and a good ability to shift the film for tucking, Unfortunately, you will usually get some air bubbles in the rock guard (textured paint on the bottom rocker), but over time it starts to get better although it'll never be perfect.

rear bumpers are fairly simple on the 911 its all about stretch and tack point dial that and you have a nice clean install

Front Bumpers on the 992.2 are significantly harder then the previous model even though it looks more simple escpecailly on non gt3 bumpers that dont have the big air damns in the front ive seen two kinda kits one with bit relief cuts and other without usally with these bumpers you really have to get the stretch done right the first time or youll end up witha gnarly work line right in the middle of the bumper or in the corners on the iner side of the bumper with fingers popping up

Window Tinting- the new 992.2 gt3rs and gt3 wiessach have light weight glass that are prone to breaking (look it up its depresing) the quarter windows are actually more expensive that the back window. So time and patients iis key when it comes to tinting these cars we really just go at them slow we protect all the fabrics with a clear liner to avoid contamination and swelling of the leather between the stitiching. We ended up doing 25% on the sides are rear.

Modesta Bcx of course on all painted and ppf surfaces wheel faces and the glass

The customer kept mentioning how he wanted more gold on the car and that he wanted to retain the oem quarter ppf so with some kick thinking i ended up finding a gold in colored paint protection film from inozetek that i overnighted and did the gt3 logo on the back bumper and oem rocker guards

This Audi came to us originally as gloss black. The customer wanted to do a full color change; he had his mind set on making it yellow. After looking at some swatches, we decided to go with Signal Yellow vinyl from Inozetek. After wrapping the vehicle, anything that wasn't wrapped in signal yellow then received Covrgard clear and carbon paint protection film "ppf".

He also was unhappy with the tint that was originally on his car. Upon further inspection of this tint, the front window tint did not match the back window tint in regard to what quality it was. We ended up doing a de-tint & re-tint using Covrgard ceramic, with 70% on the windshield and factory rear tinted glass, & 15% on the front 2 windows that later came back for 35% so he could show off the interior more. This shows how important quality is!

To finish things off, we did a "wheels off" ceramic coating in Modesta BC09 on the complete wheels and calipers. We also coated the vinyl wrap and ppf in Modesta BCX to give the color of the vinyl optimal longevity. The windshield was then coated with Modesta EGC (exterior glass coating). Final touches for delivery included a light vacuum of all carpets, tire dressing, and a quick wipe down.
